Fire of the gods

David Arner fires up the Prometheus Project

As the myth of Prometheus symbolized the steadfast strength that resists oppression, David Arner’s Prometheus Project starkly opposes the hegemony of unimaginative music in the 21st century.  With an ambitious mission to “bring the spirit of creative inspiration to contemporary human consciousness,” Arner fuses the dynamic dynamite of free jazz piano virtuosity with envelope-pushing artistic sensibility.  Featuring a wide array of guests,  Arner’s performances set venues ablaze with flames of illumination, enlightening the audiences by giving each listener a vibrant musical palette with which to paint their own personal soundscape.

A performance of unprecedented lucidity and expressive breadth

Arner’s forward approach entails creating a tonal and rhythmic framework that is musically malleable and can be extended in any direction.  Each musician establishes their own voice while sharing a common vocabulary, thus allowing a collective musical consciousness to develop organically from a common sonic seed.  This seemingly paradoxical approach towards structural spontaneity produces a performance of unprecedented lucidity and expressive breadth.

Besides Arner’s formidable piano technique, the Prometheus Project’s musical mettle is complemented by drummer  John Esposito, violinist and vocalist Rosi Hertlein and flautist Jayna Nelson.  Catch the concert at The Uptown on 33 North Front Street in Uptown Kingston on Thursday July 31st at 8:30pm.
